Air Show...Baraboo Wisconsin

Many times a small air show can be as much or more fun as a LARGE air show, when one considers that Wisconsin has 6 or so annual air shows including OSHKOSH, one would likely call Baraboo a small show.

But it had a powerful lineup of acts. Perhaps no BIG NAME STARS, but some top-notch new talent and young performers. It is pure fun to see new talent doing their best to impress a crowd and impress they did. Rather small crowd as weather was overcast and Saturday show was cancelled entirely.

Show Director Paul Rogers is a pleasant and friendly guy and has been around larger shows and knows the business well. He had brought in 5 solo acts, such as BoB Davis in his Sukhoi, Michael Vaknin in a Extra 300L, Bill Blank who is one very skilled pilot in his Super Decathlon, Larry Schalsinger in his YAK-52 and the one which so much impressed this writer, Craig Henry making his very first ever show in a Pitts S2B.

Announcer Fast Eddie Leuter, an old pal, did a super good job of announcing and had as much fun as the fans. Feature act was a 4 ship team of L 39s called the Hoppers. Jumpers from 82nd Airborne in Fort Bragg were on hand, with there 4 ship team, of T 6s called the Screaming Rebels, all in all providing a nice show for the Warbird fans.

The helicopter from the Batman movie and Batman TV series did amazing demo in high crosswinds. Fans are treated well at Baraboo, and so are media. It “ain’t” Oshhosh but its FUN!
